What is DBT?

DBT New Orleans in Louisiana is the city’s oldest comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program for adolescents and adults with emotional dysregulation, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder and related issues. Our team of dedicated professionals has extensive clinical experience and each member has received specialized DBT training.

DBT is a cognitive behavioral treatment that was developed in the late 1980s by psychologist Dr. Marsha M. Linehan to treat individuals with self-harm behaviors including self-cutting and suicidal thoughts or urges. Today, we use it to treat other kinds of mental health disorders including:

  • Alcohol and drug problems
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
